PA Heritage Festival – 2012 Dates Released & Call for Vendors
TROY, PA – Once again, the Bradford County Heritage Association & the Troy Rotary Club are sponsoring the annual Pennsylvania Heritage Festival. This growing, cultural, family-friendly event will be held on Saturday, September 15, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and on Sunday, September 16th, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Alparon Park, Rt. 14, Troy.
Focusing especially on Bradford County and surrounding areas, the Pennsylvania Heritage Festival offers traditional music, crafts, folk and fine arts, and the best of Pennsylvania foods and agricultural products in a tempting sensory mix of doing, seeing, hearing and tasting. The festival is held on the grounds of Alparon Park, using the entrances at Gates 2 and 3. Plentiful parking is available at no charge.
As in the past, the Heritage Festival will offer various demonstrations in theHistoric Village. Previous year demonstrators have included soapmakers, basket weavers, bookbinders and more. Children and adults alike can learn how to churn butter, wash clothes with a washboard, or make apple cider. Additionally, they can watch a metal smith or see the way a broom is put together by hand. As background to these fine demonstrations will be presentations on the ways our ancestors lived and worked in Bradford County.
The festival offers a great deal for everyone, from the history buff to the food connoisseur. For those ready to start Holiday shopping, the Heritage Festival is the perfect source for unique and creative gifts for family members and other loved ones. All items arehandcrafted and juried, meaning that a Festival committee of artists and experts has selected only those vendors who will exhibit and sell high quality artisan work. The carefully crafted items for sale range from such handcrafted wood items as shelves or quilt racks, to food items, picture frames, photo albums, natural soaps and lotions, wine, glass blown art, vases, and paintings. If you are interested in applying to become a vendor at the festival, please visit our website at http://www.paheritagefestival.org to download an application. Vendor application deadline is September 4, 2012 or earn an appreciable Early Bird discount by applying by June 30, 2012.
Children and adults will enjoy horse drawn wagon rides on both Saturday and Sunday, and the festival provides many old fashioned games for children to play. They can even learn to make rag dolls the way their grandmothers once did. For those more mechanically inclined, the festival offers a display of antique cars and tractors. History enthusiasts will enjoy performances of the Civil War Era that include drills and an authentic cannon that will be fired twice each day.
The Pennsylvania Heritage Festival offers a great opportunity to learn more about local history, culture, and arts and crafts. To see and experience everything, people should plan to spend the better part of a day. The event is co-sponsored by Bradford County Heritage Association and the Troy Rotary Club with proceeds benefiting the Bradford County Heritage Association grounds and artifacts and the community projects of the Troy Rotary Club.
